2017 VW Golf to Get 10-Speed DSG

Volkswagen is hard at work on its eighth-generation Golf and when it debuts in 2017 it will be loaded with new technology.

Headlining the next-generation Golf will be a 10-speed DSG transmission. According to a report from Auto Express, Volkswagen is building on the success of its seven-speed DSG by adding three more gears while retaining the same size as the current unit in order to easily fit into the Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform. As a result, expect to see the 10-speed transmission make its way to various other models including the Golf GTI, GTD and R while the seven-speed DSG will be available on lower trim models.

Volkswagen is also considering bringing the more powerful 2.0-liter BiTDI diesel engine that was recently revealed in the new Passat to the Golf lineup. The automaker is also investigating adding electric motors to its gasoline-powered Golfs for a “mild hybrid” setup to not only slightly enhance performance but to improve fuel economy and decrease CO2 emissions.

Changes will also trickle down to the e-Golf model which is expected to get a 25-percent improvement in range and will arrive shortly after the eighth-generation Golf launch.

With the next-generation Golf launching in 2017, expect to see a facelift of the current Golf next year.
