Cadillac Considering Porsche 911 Fighter
New Cadillac CEO Johan de Nysschen has big plans for the American automaker that includes diesel engines and a possible sports coupe to take on the Porsche 911.
Along with the recent announcement of Cadillac’s new nomenclature, de Nysschen aims to turn Cadillac into a global competitor in the luxury segment taking on its German competitors head-to-head. In order to do so, de Nysschen admits that diesel engines must be part of the plan saying that they are “the fastest, most cost-effective way to reduce CO2 and emissions,” in an interview with Car and Driver. As a result, Cadillac will introduce an all-new diesel engine that has been designed specifically for the brand by around 2019.

In order to truly have a complete lineup to take on the likes of Porsche and Audi, Cadillac is aware that it will also need a sports car in the same price range as the Porsche 911, but don’t expect it anytime soon. The company doesn’t plan to introduce such a model until after 2020 in order to focus on what’s necessary for the brand to grow in the near future.
As for a high-performance SUV, de Nysschen said to not expect an Escalade sporting a V badge, but a crossover is a possibility. “I want to create a significantly expanded range of V models,” he said. “It means that we need to attain critical mass. To set up V as an image-enhancing, adrenaline-pumping sub-brand to Cadillac. I expect the V range to grow up to five or six models and I expect, conceivably, that one of them could be a crossover, as well.”
