First VW e-Golf Sold at Auction to Benefit Charity

Volkswagen of America has auctioned off its first all-electric e-Golf hatchback. Clearly this car is green in more ways than one; it raised $41,400 for charity.

Proceeds from the sale will benefit Global Green USA, a national environmental non-profit focused on developing smart solutions to climate change. The auction ran from October 8 to 29 on the website CharityBuzz.com. The winner will be the first driver in the U.S. to own a 2015 e-Golf.

Appropriately the car was sold to an electric-vehicle enthusiast and VW aficionado. This electrified hatchback should satiate both of his interests. The car features a 24.2 kWh lithium-ion battery. It powers an electric motor that delivers 115 hp and 199 lb-ft of torque; this car should be squeaky clean and fun to drive.

On the economy front the e-Golf stickers at 126 MPGe in the city and 105 on highway jaunts. Combined its mile-per-gallon equivalent should average 116. The 2015 Volkswagen e-Golf will launch at select dealers in certain states. Base price is about $36,000.
