Nissan, Infiniti Join Massive Airbag Recall

Nissan and Infiniti are the latest automakers to officially recall their vehicles for faulty airbags.

A total of 52,738 units are affected by the recall which affects the 2003-2004 Nissan Pathfinder, 2004-2006 Nissan Sentra, 2003-2005 Infiniti FX35 and Infiniti FX45, 2003-2004 Infiniti I35 and 2006 Infiniti M35 and M45. The recall targets vehicles sold or currently registered in areas associated with high humidity such as Puerto Rico, Hawaii, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, Saipan, American Samoa, Florida and adjacent counties in southern Georgia in addition to the coastal areas of Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.

The massive airbag recall has been at the center of attention for the past month, with the possibility that the passenger side frontal airbag, when deployed, could rupture with metal fragments striking and potentially seriously injuring the vehicle occupants. The Japanese automaker with notify affected vehicle owners and replace the passenger airbag inflator free of charge.
