Honda Expanding its Takata Airbag Recall
Honda is expanding its recall on cars equipped with airbags that came from Takata, a supplier.
Despite the airbag manufacturer insisting it’s not necessary, the Japanese automaker will expand its airbag recall in accordance with a request from federal regulators. The first wave of recalls targeted vehicles in high-humidity areas, but U.S. safety regulators are pushing for a national airbag recall.
Honda announced that it will be issuing free loaner cars until repairs can be made and the company will prioritize high-humidity areas first, due to the limited availability of replacement parts.

Honda’s recall expansion is only for driver-side airbags and does not affect passenger-side airbags. Takata has refused the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s demand to recall the driver-side inflators and continues to insist that the inflators it is currently producing are safe.
