Hyundai Hires BMW M Chief Engineer
Hyundai looks like it is preparing to take performance engineering much more seriously.
The Korean automaker has hired Albert Biermann, former chief engineer for BMW’s M performance group, to develop performance models in addition to improving ride and handling throughout the Hyundai lineup. Biermann’s official title at Hyundai will be executive vice president, making him the second-highest foreign executive after design chief Peter Schreyer, who came from Audi.

Biermann’s stint at BMW was a long one having been with the German automaker for 30 years. He will begin his new position in April. He will also be advising on product strategy and marketing in Europe as Hyundai seeks to move upmarket in European countries.
