Lexus Still Considering Future Convertibles
Despite reports that the Lexus LF-C2 concept won’t head to production, the Japanese automaker is still considering a convertible model for its lineup.
According to Lexus Division general manager Jeff Bracken, the LF-C2 is “purely a concept” and is currently not slated for production, but a source familiar with the company’s planning has revealed to Automotive News that a convertible model is still under consideration.
The big question is whether it will be an RC convertible of a more exclusive drop-top version of the LF-LC concept that was on display at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. The LF-LC convertible would be a halo model that would help elevate the brand but an RC convertible would cost less and likely be easier to sell.

The company is expected to focus on a new three-row crossover model to compete with the BMW X5 and Audi Q7 while it decides what to do as a replacement for the IS convertible.
“We do think certainly that there’s a market for convertibles in the luxury segment,” said Bracken to Automotive News. “It’s not a huge volume item for us.”
