Volvo Revamping Entire Lineup by 2018
Volvo is preparing to change its entire image within the next three years.
The Swedish automaker could introduce as many as seven new cars by 2018 as it looks to revamp its entire lineup starting with the all-new XC90. The Swedish brand is looking to compete in the luxury market, a space that has is heavily dominated by the Germans. The reality of Volvo introducing so many new models in such a short time frame is possible thanks to the company’s new Drive-E engine family and scalable architecture.

According to a recent report, the Volvo XC90 will be followed by a new S80 which will sport the S90 nameplate. Not surprisingly, the wagon will also be updated to the V90 moniker which will likely be inspired by the Volvo Concept Estate. Considering the S90 will be the automaker’s flagship expect it to at least be equipped with a range-topping T8 plug-in hybrid powertrain sporting at a minimum 450 hp.
Expect replacements for the automaker’s 60 range (S60, V60 and Xc60) to come in 2017. The compact 40 range will get revamped to target entry-level luxury shoppers just like the Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class.
