Volvo to Start Selling Cars Online

Volvo is shaking up its sales and marketing strategies for next year.

The Swedish automaker will start selling vehicles online as it starts rolling out new models aimed to compete with its German luxury competitors BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi according to a report by Automotive News. It’s a bold move if the company aims to sell directly to consumers in the U.S. and it will be interesting to see how its dealers will handle the decision.

Volvo will only have a presence at one major auto show per region, which means it only plans to attend the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, 2015 Geneva Motor Show and either the 2015 Shanghai or Beijing Motor Show. According to sales chief Alain Visser, Volvo is looking to “stand out and challenge things,” not just with its products but with what’s expected in the automotive industry.
