2015 Corvette Z06 Engine Blows Up at 891 Miles

The Corvette Z06 has barely been on sale for a month and one of them already blew an engine.

Corvette Forum member Lawdogg149 is the first victim of a blown Z06 engine after experiencing catastrophic engine failure with only 891 miles on the odometer.

“While making a pull from 35 mph, I accelerated and shifted short of redline, and boom – the car began knocking. I pulled pulled over and popped the hood. I could hear a loud knock coming from the No. 6 cylinder area along with a serious, grinding, metal-on-metal sound coming from the supercharger area,” the owner wrote on the forum, saying the car was not modified. The local dealership has confirmed a failure in the number-six valvetrain and was instructed not to tear the engine apart because GM wishes to evaluate it.

The Z06’s owner will be receiving a replacement engine under warranty. The failure could hint at a greater problem with the engine, but the blown motor could also be caused by user error.  If there is a problem with the new LT4 engine, this will probably be the first of many more engine failures.
