2016 Nissan Titan Packs 555 LB-FT of Torque
Nissan is looking to create a whole new segment in the truck world with the new 2016 Nissan Titan XD, revealed today at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show.
The new 2016 Titan is going to be offered with two sizes of fully boxed frames, the larger of which will be called the Titan XD. With a 151.6-inch wheelbase, the XD model will be roughly 20-inches longer than the standard model. The XD will house the 5.0-liter Cummins V8 diesel engine putting out 310 hp and 555 lb-ft of torque hooked up to a six-speed Aisin automatic transmission. Two gasoline burning motors – a V8 and V6 – will be available at a later date.
That big Cummins diesel is going to help the Titan XD play in a category that doesn’t exist today, bridging the gap between half-ton and three-quarter ton pickup trucks. Maximum towing is going to be more than 12,000 lbs when the truck is properly equipped, while the maximum payload sits at above 2,000 pounds. To help with hauling duty, the new Titan packs an integrated trailer brake controller, trailer sway control, downhill speed control and a system that checks to make sure your trailer lights are all working. An electronic locking rear differential is also available.
2015 Detroit Auto Show Coverage
So far, Nissan has only shown off the Titan XD Crew Cab, but eventually there will be three cab configurations, two frame sizes, three powertrain offerings and five trim levels available for the Titan.
A new interior is also present with a host of new available features including leather heated and cooled front seat, a lockable storage bin under the rear seats, a fold out flat rear floor, 12-volt and 120-volt power outlets and a seven-inch touchscreen with Nissan’s latest infotainment system. Driver’s aids are also fitted to the new Titan in the form of a blind spot warning setup and a front and rear Sonar System.
