2017 Ford Raptor Has 450 HP: Exec

Ford’s new F-150 Raptor has dumped its V8 in favor of a turbocharged V6 and a company executive has let slip how much power it will make. 

During this past weekend’s 24 Hours of Daytona, Raj Nair, Ford Global Product Development Vice President, revealed during a televised interview that the new Raptor will make 450 hp. That power will come from the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, which currently makes 380 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque in its most powerful application.

Torque numbers were not mentioned by Nair, but we do know that the engine will make more than the 434 lb-ft that the outgoing 6.2-liter V8 made.

This bump in power should make the Raptor considerably faster considering the truck has lost about 500 lbs thanks to its aluminum body. Other enhancements for the off-road truck include a ten-speed automatic transmission, larger shocks, more suspension travel and a new terrain select system.

Production on the 2017 Raptor will begin in the fall of 2016.
