Ariel Nomad Goes Off-Roading with Honda Power

Mostly known for its blisteringly quick Ariel Atom, the British automaker is changing things up with its latest vehicle.

Called the Ariel Nomad, the new off-roader features a 2.4-liter four-cylinder iVTEC engine sourced from Honda, delivering 235 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels. The powerplant is mated to a six-speed transmission with a hydraulic clutch and a limited-slip differential. Weighing in at just 1,477 lbs, the Ariel Nomad is capable of going 0-60 mph in just 3.4 seconds. Built on a tubular steel frame, the Nomad sports rugged composite body panels that cover the waterproof two-seater cockpit. Inside is an LCD dashboard and programmable shift lights while exterior lighting includes Hella halogen headlights and LED indicators

To help handle rough terrain, it has a fully adjustable wishbone suspension bolstered by long-travel Bilstein shocks and Eibach variable springs. As a result, the Ariel Nomad has up to 12 inches of ground clearance and a 71-degree approach and 82-degree departure angle. Braking comes courtesy of 9.4-inch disc brakes while wheel options range from 15- to 18-inch rollers paired to Yokohama tires.

The Ariel Nomad is priced at about $42,000 (£27,500) before taxes.
