Mercedes-Benz Phasing Out 5.5L Twin-Turbo V8
Mercedes has decided that after this year, its 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 won’t power any more nameplates.
The company’s new 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 made its debut in the Mercedes-AMG GT and will replace the 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8. A variant of the new 4.0-liter V8 will also power the new C63, which is capable of producing even more performance than the existing 5.5-liter mill.

As we saw at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, Mercedes-Benz will outfit its GLE63 coupe model with the 5.5-liter V8 and the engine’s final application in a new car will be in the S-Class convertible. While the company will be phasing out the engine, expect it to be produced until the end of the decade.
