Shelby GT350R Beats Camaro Z/28 Around the ‘Ring?
Rumor has it that Ford has already taken its new Shelby GT350R to one of the world’s most famous race tracks.
According to Car Buzz, the Shelby GT350R has managed to lap the Nürburgring in 7:32.19, beating out the Chevy Camaro Z/28’s time of 7:37.47.
Power numbers for the Shelby are still unknown, though the company says it will make “more than” 500 hp from its 5.2-liter V8. To make is especially fast on the race track, Ford deleted the air conditioning, stereo, rear seats, trunk carpet, rear-view camera and emergency tire sealer. This adds up to a weight savings of about 150 pounds over the regular GT350.
Other track-specific goodies fitted to the GT350R include a full aerodynamics package, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and MagneRide dampers.

In comparison, the Camaro Z/28 makes 505 hp from its naturally aspirated 7.0-liter V8 and also goes without some creature comforts like air conditioning and a backup camera in the name of weight savings.
