2015 Chrysler 200 Recalled to Replace Transmission
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling approximately 25,000 copies of the 200 mid-size sedan for a transmission replacement.
The new-for-2015 midsizer comes with FCA’s nine-speed automatic, a gearbox that is proving to be troublesome for the company so far. Last year Jeep ended up having to tweak the same nine-speed to give it smoother shifts after customers started complaining. Now FCA is calling back V6-powered versions of the 200 in the U.S., Canada and Mexico to address problems that the company says stem from inconsistent assembly procedures at the supplier level.
In affected vehicles, the park rod can become dislodged or broken, which prevents the car from shifting into “park,” leaving it at risk of rolling away.
Chrysler didn’t specify if the same defect will be cause for a recall in other vehicles that also use the ZF-designed transmission.
