GM Ignition Switch Total Deaths Reach 56

The official death toll related to the GM ignition switch recall continues to climb after the passed deadline for compensation claims.

The latest report from the General Motors Ignition Compensation Claims reveal that 75 more applications have been filed and accepted. Currently the total number of applications have reached 4,312 and it’s unknown if that number will continue to climb, but attorneys will look at them so long as they were postmarked by January 31.

Compared to the previous announcement, a dozen more claims have been approved, including four more fatalities bringing the total number of deaths related to the recall to 56. One more catastrophic injury has been approved bringing that number to nine while seven additional less severe injuries are eligible, making that tally 78.
