The deadline for filing claims was January 31, but any claims postmarked by that date are eligible for review and the compensation fund has revealed in its latest report that 33 more claims have been accepted for review. In total, GM has received 479 claims for death, 292 for catastrophic injuries and 3,574 for less-serious injuries.

The compensation fund has approved 151 claims for compensation in total, 57 of which cover deaths. The report also showed that 666 claims have been deemed ineligible and 1,457 are still under review.
The issues stems from a faulty ignition switch that can shut down the car’s engine while driving, resulting in power loss that disables the airbags and other systems.
