Mercedes GLC Plug-in Hybrid Spied Testing
Mercedes is planning to add plug-in hybrid variants to various models in its lineup.
The C- and S-Class cars are the two confirmed lines getting plug-in hybrid variants, but AutoGuide.com‘s spy photographers have caught the German automaker’s newest crossover testing just such a drivetrain arrangement. The Mercedes-Benz GLC will replace the GLK in the company’s lineup. A heavily camouflaged version of this crossover with a charger socket in its rear bumper was recently spotted undergoing testing in Sweden.

Since the GLC is based on the C-Class it’s likely the plug-in hybrid will be based on the GLC 350 trim, which features a four-cylinder gasoline engine combined with an electric motor delivering a total system output of around 279 hp and more than 442 lb-ft of torque.
Other vehicles we’ve spotted testing as plug-in hybrids include the GLE – which replaces the ML – and the upcoming E-Class. The debut of the production GLC is expected at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show in September, while the plug-in hybrid version will likely come early next year.
