New Ram Pickup to Debut in Chicago

Ram is heading to this year’s Chicago Auto Show with something new.

The American automaker has scheduled a press conference at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show, promising to unveil a new model though it isn’t offering any clues about what it will be. Based on the company’s five-year plan, a refreshed Ram 1500 pickup is scheduled to be introduced this year and Chicago might just be the place for it to happen. A complete redesign on the Ram 1500 isn’t expected to arrive until 2017.

Earlier this year, it was rumored that Ram would debut a new compact pickup called the 700 at the Detroit Auto Show. That did not happen and the company’s CEO Bob Hegbloom said that the Ram 700 is not set up to come to the U.S. The compact 700 is based on the Fiat Strada and is sold in Mexico with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine sporting 115 hp. It is expected that for the U.S. market, the Ram 700 will use a more powerful 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 178 hp and 174 lb-ft of torque.
