Porsche Offers Modern Touchscreen for Classic 911s

2

Porsche is offering owners of its classic sports cars the chance to adopt some modern technology.

The German brand has designed a 3.5-inch touchscreen radio and navigation unit that will fit into all classic 911 models from the first examples built in the 1960s all the way up to the last of the air-cooled 993 models of the mid-1990s, including the earlier front-engine and mid-engine models.

Porsche worked to make these new units blend in with the existing look of the classic 911 thanks to black surfacing and period-correct Porsche lettering. The brand also made sure to optimize radio reception using the existing aerial unit on the car, while also making sure that the new radio can connect to the existing sound system.

Just like any modern infotainment unit, navigation, radio and bluetooth connectivity are all available.

The modern radio is available through Porsche Classic, the arm of the company responsible for maintenance of classic Porsches. It is immediatley available in Germany for 1,184 Euros ($1,340 USD). Pricing and availability for the U.S. will be released once testing, which is currently in the final stages, is complete.
