Volvo Developing ‘Self-Fueling’ Cars
How exactly does a car fill itself up with gas? Well, It doesn’t, but a new service from Volvo is pretty close to that reality.
The Swedish automaker is reportedly developing a system that will alert a mobile fueling truck via a smartphone when it’s time to fill a car’s gas tank. The truck driver will have a one-off code to access that specific car’s fuel tank, so they can fill the tank even without the owner present.

Volvo would only say “maybe” when asked directly if they were developing this fueling technology, but it is clear that the brand wants to integrate smartphone connectivity into its cars. “The widespread use of smartphones is unlocking new potential in what you can do connecting a car with a customer,” Klas Bendrik, Volvo’s head of technology told the Daily Mail.
A system that would allow packages to be delivered to your car has already been tested by Volvo according to Bendrik, suggesting that Volvo is definitely interested in this kind of technology.
