Ford F-150 Production Begins at Second Plant
Ford has begun 2015 F-150 production at a second assembly plant.
Production of the new F-150 at the Dearborn plant has already been running for several months and now the Kansas City assembly plant is churning out new Ford trucks after spending 13 weeks retooling. A total of $1.1 billion was spent to prepare the Kansas City facility, which now houses 900 new workers and 500 new robots.

Ford has had some lower than normal sales numbers due to production restraints caused by retooling and prepping new factories to build the F-150, which the company says will be fully stocked in dealer inventories by June. Fleet sales also took a hit because they were capped due to the slow supply, but they should pick back up now that the second production facility is online.
On the upside, F-150s have been sitting on dealer lots for an average of just 18 days while higher trim models like the King Ranch and Platinum have been moving in between 12 and 16 days.
