Lotus to Make The Call on a Crossover This Year

2

Lotus is looking to turn the corner and expand its lineup within the next few years.

At the Geneva Motor Show, while other automakers were busy showing off the  latest electronic technologies and investing into hybrid and electric vehicles, Lotus stuck to what it does best: performance-minded sports cars. CEO Jean-Marc Gales doesn’t care much about self-driving cars. For now, the company is looking to expand into other markets with a new vehicle that will probably be a crossover.

Rumors of Lotus preparing a crossover surfaced late last year and Gales has said that the company will probably decide this year whether or not it will invest in the new model. The exciting news is that Gales vowed that Lotus wouldn’t just develop a crossover to simply compete in the growing segment, but will rather aim to “reinvent the category.” Gales admitted that he is torn between a four-door sports car and a crossover SUV, but believes the British automaker can develop a crossover that would be “very light, very fast on the track and has outstanding handling.”
