McLaren P1 GTR Order Book Closes on Friday
The track-only McLaren P1 GTR just made its debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, but it won’t be long before the window of opportunity to own one shuts.
In fact, the company is closing its order books on Friday, March 6. Company spokesman John Paolo Canton said that before the show opened, McLaren had 38 copies on its order books, but that it took a last-minute order on the night of Tuesday, March 3, bringing the total to 39. The 1,000 metric horsepower track-exclusive machine sits lower and wider than the normal P1 with a lighter curb weight.
The interior has been stripped of the normal P1’s stylish materials in favor of a mostly bare cockpit that does away with comfort features save the air conditioning. For example, it has racing seats, polycarbonate side windows. It also gets special 19-inch center-locking wheels wrapped in racking slicks, rubber that the normal P1 isn’t compatible with.
P1 ownership is prerequisite to getting a P1 GTR, which limits the pool of potential customers to the small pool of current owners. For the special few who both have the right to buy one and can afford it, McLaren is also offering a training program that includes track time and a fitness training program.
