Uber Drivers Now Outnumber Cabs in NYC

New York City’s famous yellow cabs are now outnumbered by Uber drivers. 

Uber, the company that allows you to use an app to request a ride from a registered driver, now has more cars operating than there are yellow cabs in New York City. According to a recent Taxi and Limousine Commission report, there are 14,088 Uber cars in NYC and just 13,587 yellow cabs.

Uber’s growth can be attributed to its competitive rates for riders and higher pay for drivers. One Uber driver told the New York Post that he made $85,000 after expenses, more than double the amount that most yellow cab drivers pull in Despite this, yellow cabs in NYC still make 10 times as many trips as Uber cars in a day.
