Audi Prologue Allroad Concept Makes 734 HP

2

Audi unveiled a crossover concept car today ahead of the Shanghai Motor Show that relies on a plug-in hybrid powertrain and a twin-turbo V8.

The Prologue Allroad Concept is similar to the Prologue Avant Concept that the company had on display in Geneva last month, but with an extra three inches of ground clearance and beefier body cladding. For example, it gets black plastic trim around the wheel arches, different front and rear fascias that create more aggressive approach and departure angles, and plastic covering the rocker panels.

Its powertrain creates 734 HP and 663 lb-ft of torque that transfers to all four wheels through an eight-speed transmission and Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive. The company says its jacked up wagon concept can jump from 0-62 MPH (100 KMH) in a sports car beating 3.5 seconds when both the gasoline and electric portions of the powertrain are running at full boil. Spending energy more conservatively, it can return up to 98 MPG on Europe’s lax test cycle.

On electricity alone, it can travel up to 33 miles. Audi’s plans for the car as a whole aren’t clear yet, but it did say today that the concept includes a provision for wireless charging that will find its way into production cars in the future.
