Ford Caps Shelby GT 350 Production for 2015
Turns out the flat-plane crank V8 Ford’s Shelby GT 350 gets isn’t the only thing it has in common with Italian supercars.
Ford is putting a limit on the number that will be available for the 2015 model year. Shelby GT 350 production will be limited to 100 units for the regular model and only 37 for the GT350R. The 100-unit run will include 50 models equipped with the “Technology” package that includes leather-trimmed power-adjustable seats, a Shaker stereo and eight-inch touchscreen and dual zone electronic temperature control. The other 50 will ship with the “Track Package” that includes an engine oil cooler and a transmission cooler.
Ford didn’t announce packaging details for the GT350R, but when it debuted in Detroit the company announced plans to offer it with carbon fiber wheels, which is a first for Ford.
After that, production will roll over to the 2016 model year. Ford said today that the 2015 MY cars will come with a special VIN that marks its place among the limited run meant to commemorate the Mustang’s 50th anniversary.
The GT350 has a 5.2-liter flat-plane crankshaft V8 that allows it to have a screaming 8,200-RPM redline with “at least 500 hp” and at least 400 lb-ft of torque although Ford still hasn’t confirmed SAE certified figures for the car. Similarly, pricing hasn’t been officially been announced.
