GM Announces $5.4B Investment into US Manufacturing
General Motors has announced a large investment into several US manufacturing facilities.
The American automaker plans to spend $5.4 billion over the next three years, an investment that will create about 650 new jobs. So far, the company has offered details on $783.5 million of the total investment, all of which will be going to three different Michigan facilities. The investment breaks down to roughly $5 million a day or $150 million every month for the next three years.
The Lansing Delta Township assembly plant, where GM’s crossovers are built, will be getting a $520 million investment for tooling and upgraded equipment. Next generation Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave crossovers are expected to arrive in 2017.

The Pontiac Metal Center is going to receive $124 million, while $139.6 million will go to a new body shop and stamping facility upgrades at pre-production operations in Warren, Michigan. What GM does with the remainder of the money, $4.6 billion, will be disclosed in the coming months.
According to GM, the new investment will enable stamping plants to produce high quality parts in shorter amounts of time, while issues will be caught earlier in the build process.
