Mazda Unveils KODO Designed Bicycle, Sofa
Mazda is expanding its KODO design language to non-vehicle applications.
A pair of Mazda-designed items were unveiled on the eve of opening for the event “Mazda Design: The Car as Art,” which will be featured at Milan Design Week 2015 in Italy. One concepts, the “Bike by KODO” makes sense for the Japanese automaker, but the other is a Sofa by KODO, which is seems like an unlikely product for Mazda. According to Mazda, the bike is a track racer that “seeks to express the innate beauty of the bicycle” and has a minimalist structure created by hammering a single sheet of steel while the black leather saddle is hand-stitched. The black and red theme as well as its design was created to mimic the 2016 Mazda MX-5’s styling.

As for the sofa, it’s a collaborative effort between Mazda’s designers and Italian furniture makers. The company said the “form of the sofa is as honed as that of the all-new Mazda CX-3 and evokes the strong stance common to all Mazda’s new-generation vehicles.
