2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD CNG Option Announced
The Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD CNG bi-fuel powetrain is an new option for customers this year.
Starting in the fourth quarter of 2015, the 2016 Silverado 3500HD Chassis Cab will add a bi-fuel option, allowing drivers to operate the pickup on CNG or gasoline. The bi-fuel option will be available on the regular cab in both two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive models later this year. According to the American automaker, Southern California Gas Co. is using over 5,000 Silverado 3500HD pickups on the road, with 22 percent of its over-the-road fleet operating on natural gas.
All of the CNG fuel systems are warranted and validated by Chevrolet and qualified commercial and government fleet customers receive a five-year, 100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty that covers the CNG fuel system and its components. Other customers receive the standard Chevrolet Complete Care five-year, 60,000-mile powertrain limited warranty.

The Silverado 3500HD will be outfitted with a 24.5-gallon CNG tank directly behind the cab and will be in addition to the 23.5-gallon gasoline tank, giving drivers fueling flexibility and optimal range between fillups. The Silverado 3500HD Chassis Cab joins the bi-fuel Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD and the dedicated CNG full-size Chevrolet Express and vans in the company’s lineup.
Chevy also said that all major components associated with the CNG system carry GM service part numbers and are available through dealerships in the U.S., something that isn’t the case with other automakers’ bi-fuel trucks.
