Among the new technologies being used in the shop are LED lighting, new robots which are more efficient and provide an extremely smooth finish, high-efficiency baking ovens and a dry scrubber booth that will eliminate sludge water and waste.
Job count at the factory will remain the same and GM says that Corvette deliveries should not be affected as a result of the construction.
The investment is one part of an overall plan that will see GM invest $5.4 billion into U.S. manufacturing in the next three years.
