Jeep Renegades Being Held Over 9-Speed Issue
Jeep is holding back a number of Renegades from dealers because of a software issue.
FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne says that some Renegades are having a similar transmission software issue that plagued the larger Cherokee crossover. The Cherokee’s launch was delayed in 2013 over the problem with its nine-speed automatic transmission, the same unit used in the Renegade.

“I’m having a very bad engineering day,” Marchionne said. “It’s a combination of attributes of that vehicle that is making my life horrible.”
FCA was forced to re-flash nine-speed transmissions in the Cherokee and Chrysler 200 after numerous customers complained of hard shifts, lunging and other problems.
Marchionne says that any Renegades currently being held will be released for purchase by mid-June at the latest.
