Volkswagen Apprentices Unveil Worthersee Concepts

The Volkswagen apprentices have unveiled their projects for this year’s Wörthersee event.

A total of 13 apprentices from Volkswagen and group company Sitech Sitztechnik have traveled to the 34th Wörthersee GTI meeting to show off the Golf GTI Dark Shine and Golf Variant Biturbo concept.

The sporty Golf GTI Dark Shine (pictured above) boasts a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that has been boosted to 389 hp and 359 lb-ft of torque. The team of apprentices also gave the Golf GTI a makeover, adding a two-tone Daytona Grey Metallic and R-yellow pearl paint job, contrasted by arrow-shaped R-yellow pearl effect stripes.

Inside the Golf GTI Dark Shine has a set of Recaro bucket seats while the rear bench seat has been painted grey to match the exterior. The center sections of the seats have been covered with titanium black Alcantara while the side bolsters and backrests now feature black carbon leather. In addition, the team outfitted the Golf GTI with a 3,500-watt audio system with eight speakers in the passenger compartment and three subwoofers in the rear.

Joining the Golf GTI Dark Shine is the Golf Variant Biturbo concept, that is powered by a twin-turbo 2.0-liter diesel engine packing 236 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque. According to the German automaker, the engine was “borrowed” from the new Passat Variant 2.0 TDI 4Motion and the 14 apprentices from Zwickau are the first to install the engine in a Golf Variant. The interior design of the Golf Variant Biturbo concept reflects the exterior’s Alor blue and Deep Black pearl scheme. Expect the Golf Variant Biturbo concept to make additional appearances, including at the opening of an extended exhibition at the August Horch Museum in Zwickau.
