Tesla Model 3 Crossover Planned

Tesla has more than just the Model 3 sedan in the works.

According to a recent report from The Wall Street Journal, the American electric automaker plans to add a crossover variant of its Model 3 to the lineup in the future. Essentially, it suggests that the Model 3 will be a family of cars, acting as a more affordable, entry-level version to its Model S and Model X vehicles.

Most recently, Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed that the Model 3 will actually have at least a 250-mile range and will be priced around $35,000. It will also arrive in 2017 to compete with the Chevrolet Bolt.

The Model X crossover is expected to begin deliveries towards the end of the year after numerous delays, and is essentially a crossover version of the existing and popular Model S sedan. If Tesla follows the same formula, expect the Tesla Model 3 crossover to have at least a 250-mile range and be priced well under $50,000 to capture a growing segment.

One could argue that it’s not really a surprise that Tesla is planning an entry-level crossover model as well, considering how booming the segment currently is.
