Apparently, things can change in just five years, because now, some electric vehicles are straight ludicrous when it comes to straight-line acceleration. Tesla has added a “ludicrous mode” for its Model S that gives the sedan the capability of going 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds, which the American automaker said makes it the fastest accelerating car on the road at the time of the announcement. Since then, Tesla has carefully reworded it to say “fastest accelerating sedan” as to not ruffle the feathers of those digging up 0-60 mph times to debunk the American automaker.
Regardless, ludicrous mode makes the Tesla Model S silly fast and here are 10 surprising cars it’ll surely beat to 60 mph and likely in a drag race down the quarter mile.

Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat
Dodge advertises the Challenger SRT Hellcat’s 0-60 time to be in the “low 3-second range” and while that is impressively fast, especially for a car costing around $60,000, that venerable 707-hp HEMI doesn’t trump the Tesla Model S’s ludicrous mode.
Pagani Huayra
Dude, your multi-million dollar, twin-turbo V12-equipped hypercar is slower than an EV with four doors. That’s right, the Pagani Huayra, despite its 720 hp and 740 lb-ft of torque, goes 0-60 in 3.2 seconds.
2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06
Chevrolet pegged its new Corvette Z06’s 0-60 time at 2.95 seconds, and we reckon that 0.05 faster than three seconds flat was very important for the sports car. It’s a shame it couldn’t dig for 0.15 seconds more because now a four-door electric car is faster than one of America’s most famous sports cars.
Porsche 911 Turbo S
According to Porsche, the 911 Turbo S goes 0-60 in 2.9 seconds. That makes one of the most heralded and sought after sports cars in America slower than an all-electric sedan. No, seriously, a 2015 Porsche 911 Turbo S is slower than a Tesla Model S going 0-60 mph. How’s that for ludicrous?
McLaren 650S
The 650S is on par with the Porsche 911 Turbo S when it comes to accelerating 0-60. The British automaker’s supercar does the sprint in 2.9 seconds, still a tick slower than the Tesla Model S with ludicruos mode.
