2019 Audi Q6 Aims to Fight Tesla Model X
Audi is getting ready to take on the upcoming Tesla Model X crossover, though not for another few years.
Last year it was reported that the German automaker was preparing a pair of electric crossovers, and one of those models is shaping up to be the 2019 Audi Q6.
The new crossover will be closely related to the next-generation Audi Q5 (seen above) but will be offered with alternative powertrains only, meaning all-electric, plug-in hybrid and possibly hydrogen fuel cell. To maximize aerodynamics, expect the 2019 Audi Q6 to carry a four-door coupe design for a low coefficient of drag, with Audi R&D chief Ulrich Hackenberg going so far as to calling it a “Sports Activity Vehicle,” akin to BMW’s SUV models.

The platform will be based on Audi’s second-generation MLB architecture and will be packed with numerous autonomous driving features, technology that the German automaker has been investing heavily in over recent years. The all-electric version will borrow its components from the Audi R8 e-tron, sporting around 500 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque along with quattro all-wheel drive. To stay on pace with Tesla’s offerings, the Q6 is aiming for a range of at least 310 miles.
Expect to learn more about the Audi Q6 leading up to its launch in early 2018.
