Average Fuel Economy Drops Slightly in June

The average fuel economy of all new vehicles sold in June dropped slightly to sit at 25.4 mpg. 

That represents a loss of 0.1 mpg compared to May, a result of the rise in light truck and SUV sales in June according to the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI).

Since UMTRI began tracking mpg stats back in 2007, new vehicle fuel economy has improved by 5.3 mpg, while average fuel economy has been above 25 mpg now for 17 consecutive months. The highest fuel economy average ever recorded was 25.8 mpg in August of 2014.
