10 Surprising Cars the Ford Focus RS is Faster Than

It has been confirmed that the 2016 Ford Focus RS will go 0-62 mph in 4.7 seconds while having a top speed of 165 mph.

As the fastest-ever Ford RS model, the new Focus RS will crank out 345 horsepower and AutoGuide.com has already compiled a list of surprising cars that it’s more powerful than. But how the hot hatch’s 0-62 mph time hold up against the competition? You might be surprised to hear some of the cars it beats.

To give competitors the benefit of the doubt, we researched both 0-60 and 0-62 mph times, assuming the difference is negligible.

Here are 10 cars the new Focus RS would embarrass in a drag race.

Ferrari Testarossa – 5.3 seconds

With a 4.9-liter V12 engine, the Ferrari Testarossa may have 390 hp and 361 lb-ft of torque, but even one of the world’s most famous exotics can’t keep up with the new Ford Focus RS. The Testarossa has a 0-62 mph time of 5.3 seconds, which is 0.6 seconds behind the hot hatch from Ford. And we should point out, the Focus has less power!

2015 Subaru WRX STI – 5.1 seconds

It’s one of the world’s most famous all-wheel drive sports cars, but even the Subaru WRX STI has some stiff competition with the Ford Focus RS. With 305 hp and 290 lb-ft of torque, the WRX STI doesn’t even measure up on paper and the Japanese automaker claims it does 0-60 in 5.1 seconds.

2014 Bentley Mulsanne Speed – 4.9 seconds

Yes, we’re well aware that you could buy nearly 10 Ford Focus RS hatchbacks for the price of one Bentley Mulsanne Speed, but would you believe that an ultra-luxury sedan with a 6.8-liter engine with 530 hp and 811 lb-ft of torque can’t keep up with a little hatchback? According to the British automaker, the Mulsanne Speed does the 0-62 mph sprint in 4.9 seconds, meaning all 10 of your Ford Focus RS hatchbacks would be faster.

Porsche 996 Carrera – 4.9 seconds

Believe it or not, but a previous-generation Porsche 996 Carrera can’t even keep up with the Ford Focus RS in a drag race. With a 0-62 time of 4.9 seconds, the Carrera with a 3.6-liter engine sporting 315 hp shows just how far cars have come in less than two decades.

2010 Ford Mustang GT – 4.9 seconds

If you’ve got a previous-generation Ford Mustang GT, you might want to consider trading it in for a Ford Focus RS. Sporting a 4.6-liter V8 engine with 315 hp, the Mustang GT doesn’t beat the Ford Focus RS on paper or on the streets.

2010 Dodge Challenger SRT8 – 4.9 seconds

Considering the Focus RS outpaces the 2010 Ford Mustang GT, it shouldn’t be a huge surprise that it trumps the 2010 Dodge Challenger SRT8 as well. It’s even crazier when you consider the Challenger has a 6.1-liter V8 engine with 425 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. Now the Challenger Hellcat… that’s an entirely different story.

Acura NSX – 4.8 seconds

We definitely understand that the first-generation Acura NSX graced our presence many, many years ago, but it still has to be a surprise that it’s slower than the Ford Focus RS. Even if you take the 1997 Acura NSX-T model with a 3.2-liter mated to a six-speed manual, the most generous 0-60 mph time is 4.8 seconds. Something tells us that the new Acura NSX will leave the Focus RS in the dust though.

BMW E90/E92 M3 – 4.8 seconds with manual transmission

One of BMW’s most popular sports cars is actually slower than Ford’s hot hatch. Last generation’s BMW M3 when equipped with a manual transmission goes 0-62 in 4.8 seconds. Now, those that opted for the non-manual transmission will do the sprint in 4.6 seconds. It is worth noting that independent testing saw sub-four second sprints from the E92 M3.

2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS – 4.8 seconds with manual transmission

When the American sports car market heated up in 2010, the Chevrolet Camaro SS led the pace with a 4.8-second 0-60 time when equipped with a manual transmission. The automatic gearbox did allow the coupe to do the sprint 0.2 seconds faster. But still, we’re talking about a 6.2-liter V8 with 426 hp when paired to the six-speed manual or 400 hp when mated to the automatic.

2016 Audi TTS – 4.7 seconds

Enough with sports cars that are outdated. How about the all-new Audi TTS? Believe it or not, the 2016 Audi TTS with 292 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque and an S-tronic transmission goes 0-62 in 4.7 seconds. Sure, that’s a tie on paper but you’ve got to be intrigued to see what will be faster in the real world.
