Lamborghini Under Investigation, Head Offices Searched

Lamborghini has had its head offices searched as part of the ongoing Volkswagen diesel scandal investigation.

Although none of Lamborghini’s vehicles are currently part of dieselgate, the company is under investigation for alleged fraud along with Volkswagen. Lamborghini was acquired by Volkswagen in 1998 and the investigation of managers at both Volkswagen and Lamborghini in Italy is part of a legal procedure connected with the searches.

Lamborghini released a statement confirming that it is “cooperating closely with the authorities.”

Last month, a judicial source stated that prosecutors in Turin were looking into whether emissions data from the Volkswagen vehicles in Italy were manipulated. One Italian consumer group, Codacons, has already filed a class action lawsuit against Volkswagen, alleging that the German automaker deceived car owners while potentially harming the environment.

“If we want to be able to prove that (cars) have been sold by people who knew they were committing a crime, we need proof that people were aware,” said Mario Giulio Schinaia, chief prosecutor in the northern Italian town of Verona, where Volkswagen has its Italian headquarters.
