Volkswagen Diesel Scandal Will be Turned into a Movie

Paramount Pictures and Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company has secured the rights to create a movie on the Volkswagen diesel scandal.

The movie will be based on a book that has yet to be written by New York Times journalist Jack Ewing. According to Ewing, DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way has acquired an option for the rights. The book will put a focus on how a “more, better, faster” ethos resulted in one of the “greatest frauds in corporate history.” Last month, Volkswagen admitted to using a defeat device to cheat on EPA diesel emissions tests, revealing that its vehicles pollute up to 40 times more nitrogen oxide than the legal limit.

The book is expected to be completed by the end of 2016 and DiCaprio will likely produce the film on which it’s based. Ewing’s agent, Marly Rusoff, said publisher W.W. Norton & Company has agreed to pay a six-figure sum for the book rights, based on a rough outline for the work.
