2016 Nissan Sentra Updated Inside and Out

The Altima sedan and Rogue crossover are Nissan’s top selling models in America. But did you know, the compact Sentra is the Japanese automaker’s third most popular vehicle? To keep it on drivers’ shopping lists, the Sentra has been refreshed for the 2016 model year.

This small four door gains revised exterior styling, an updated cabin and more available content.

On the outside it features a Murano-inspired grille, though it also benefits from updated front and rear fascias, new fenders, a reworked hood and available 17-inch alloy wheels.

To enhance how it behaves on the road, engineers retuned the Sentra’s chassis. Its springs and dampers are 10 percent starchier than before and its body structure is stiffer. The car’s electrically boosted steering has also been enhanced to give it more feel.

A familiar 1.8-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine is paired with one of two gearboxes. A continuously variable automatic will see duty in most models, but S trim-level cars are available with a six-speed manual transmission. Improving its feel, the CVT has been enhanced with Nissan’s D-Step Logic, which simulates gear changes in certain driving situations.

Inside, the Sentra gains a new steering wheel, an available power driver’s seat and a redesigned console, along with other enhancements.

A soft plastic instrument panel and armrests give it an upscale look. Available dual-zone climate control and an eight-speaker Bose sound system make it feel more premium.

Drivers are treated to an extra helping of technology. Things like automatic emergency braking, intelligent cruise control and blind-spot monitoring are available. SR and SL models gain LED low-beam headlights.

The 2016 Nissan Sentra should squeak in before the new year. Look for it to arrive at dealerships late next month. Base price is $17,605, including $825 in delivery fees.
