2017 Hyundai Elantra Video, First Look
The 2017 Hyundai Elantra made its debut at the 2015 L.A. Auto Show ahead of going on sale in January 2016.
Entering its sixth generation, the Elantra not only gets a new, sportier and more upscale design but also new efficient powertrains including a 2.0-liter Atkinson four-cylinder engine with 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque. Although EPA estimated figures haven’t been announced, the Korean automaker expects the compact sedan to return 29 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway.
The other new engine is a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 128 hp and 156 lb-ft of torque, found on the Elantra Eco model. That powerplant is mated to an EcoShift seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission and will get an estimated 35-mpg combined rating based on Hyundai’s internal testing.

Compared to the current Elantra, the new model is 0.8-inch longer and one-inch wider and offers more passenger volume than its competitors with 95.8 cubic feet. Total interior volume comes in at 110.2 cubic feet while cargo volume is at a respectable 14.4 cubic feet.
