Faraday Future Teases Concept Set to Debut Early 2016

An American startup consisting of former Tesla employees is teasing a concept that will debut at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January.

Faraday Future is a new American automaker planning to launch fully-electric vehicles “that will offer smart and seamless connectivity to the outside world.” The company currently has over 400 employees from diverse backgrounds and includes notable former Tesla employees like Nick Sampson, who was the former director of Vehicle & Chassis Engineering at Tesla. Also part of the Faraday Future team are Dag Reckhorn, former director of manufacturing at Tesla; Alan Cherry, former senior director human resources at Tesla and Tom Wessner, former director of purchasing at Tesla. Also part of the team is Richard Kim as head of design, who was a founding member of BMW i design and lead designer for the i3 and i8 concepts.

Little is known about Faraday Future’s first concept, but the company promises that it will “unveil a concept inspired by our design and engineering vision. The future of mobility is closer than you think.”

Business Insider reports that Faraday Future is backed by Chinese billionaire Jia Yueting, who runs technology company Letv, which is like the Chinese version of Netflix. One of Letv’s partners is Aston Martin.

The company currently is aiming to launch its first production vehicle by 2017 and plans to invest as much as $1 billion into a new factory located in the U.S.
