The Genesis G90 is the Next Hyundai Equus

2

The next-generation Hyundai Equus is being previewed by the Genesis G90.

Now that the Korean automaker has decided to launch a standalone Genesis luxury brand, the current Hyundai Equus will be phased out to make room for the G90 at the top of the new range. Hyundai is describing the Genesis G90 as “elegantly designed” and “technology packed,” sporting a new design language it calls “athletic elegance.” Expect the Genesis G90 to be the foundation for the brand’s design as Hyundai looks to launch five more nameplates through 2020.

Although it’s just a rendering that Hyundai has shared, it’s evident that the company is moving upmarket with its standalone Genesis luxury brand with the G90 sporting a low-slung profile with an elongated and pronounced hood. Overall, it has a four-door coupe style with a clean-cut profile and wraparound tail lights. Hyundai originally hinted at the new design language with the Vision G concept that debuted earlier this year at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

In total, the Genesis lineup will feature three sedan models. The G90 will replace the Equus and the G80 will replace the current Genesis sedan. The automaker is also working on a smaller G70 sedan, a coupe, a midsize crossover and an SUV.

“The G90 sits at the pinnacle of the Genesis brand and demonstrates how we apply our human-centered values to give our customer true satisfaction in every aspect of the vehicle ownership experience,” said Yang Woong-Chul, head of Hyundai Motor R&D Center and vice chairman of Hyundai Motor Co.
