Volkswagen’s Quality Assurance Chief Resigns

Volkswagen‘s head of quality assurance, Frank Tuch, has resigned.

It’s another casualty of the massive diesel scandal that has swept the German automaker ever since it admitted in September 2015 that it cheated on EPA diesel emissions tests. Tuch was appointed in 2010 by former CEO Martin Winterkorn, who resigned in the wake of the diesel scandal. New CEO Matthias Muller continues to shake up the company’s senior management as he looks to pave a new direction for Volkswagen.

According to people familiar with the matter, Tuch was one of several executives who were suspended after an investigation was launched into the emissions scandal. He has not been charged with any wrongdoing.

Volkswagen’s official statement is that Tuch resigned to pursue other interests and he will be replaced by Hans-Joachim Rothenpieler, a board member at Volkswagen’s commercial vehicle division in charge of technical development. Rothenpieler, 58 years old, will take the position starting February 15 and will report directly to Muller.

Replacing Rothenpiler at his position at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will be Harald Ludanek.
