Ferrari Confirms it Has No Plans to Build an SUV

6

Ferrari has reiterated that it has no plans on building an SUV.

Last month, FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne said that someone would have to shoot him before a Ferrari SUV or crossover would hit the market. During an interview at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, where the Ferrari GTC4Lusso debuted, Marchionne told reporters, “We will not play with SUVs. It’s not in our DNA.”

It’s welcoming news for Ferrari enthusiasts that embrace the brand for its exotic and exquisite machinery. Numerous luxury automakers including arch rival Lamborghini are heading into the SUV market. Beyond this, there are already some models arriving like the Bentley Bentayga. Maserati debuted the Levante in Geneva while Aston Martin is getting ready to take its DBX crossover into production.

“We must be very careful,” Marchionne said. “Whatever we do, we must not damage Ferrari as a supercar maker.” He also confirmed that Ferrari is actively considering new directions, but we will definitely not be seeing a high-riding, off-road SUV anytime soon, if ever. That is unless someone shoots Sergio Marchionne, which is not something we would recommend doing.
