The Ford F-150 Raptor is Headed to China

1

Ford will be sending the 2017 F-150 Raptor to a market it has never been sold in before: China.

The truck, which will feature a high-output 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 and ten-speed automatic transmission, will test the waters for Ford trucks in China, where large trucks and SUVs have traditionally done well.

Ford expects that the Raptor will be a low volume vehicle in China.

“F-150 Raptor is the ultimate showcase of the tough capability available throughout Ford’s family of trucks and SUVs,” said John Lawler, chairman and CEO, Ford Motor China. “By introducing it to the world’s largest auto market, we hope to inspire a new generation of off-road enthusiasts, and demonstrate how we are always bringing our customers new innovations.”

The truck will be targeted at weekend warriors in China, where a strong off-road culture exists. According to the Specialty Equipment Manufacturing Association, the aftermarket parts business was booming in China in 2015.
