Volkswagen’s Three-Row Crossover Spied Again

Volkswagen is doing away with more camouflage on its upcoming three-row crossover. 

This latest set of spy photos show prototypes that look close to production-spec, ditching the previously seen fake front fascias. Around the sides, the mid-sections are totally camouflage free, with a belt line showing that is reminiscent of a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The crossover is said to be slightly larger than a Ford Explorer, though a little smaller than a Chevy Traverse. Pricing should be in the $50,000 range, making it one of VW’s more expensive models.

Under the hood, a 3.6-liter V6 borrowed from the Passat should be offered along with a smaller 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. According to our spy photographer, there was a clear difference in sound between two of the prototypes; one was clearly a V6 while the other sounded like a four cylinder.

A plug-in hybrid version is also expected to be offered. VW’s overdue three-row crossover will finally go on sale in early 2017.
