Toyota 86 Wagon Concept Debuts, Fanboys Everywhere Cry a Little

Bringing many enthusiast’s dreams to life, Toyota Australia has revealed the 86 Shooting Brake Concept. 

The concept was hand-built in Japan and was revealed in Australia by Toyota 86 chief engineer Tetsuya Tada, who got the idea from a one-quarter scale clay model he saw of the shooting brake during a visit to Australia in 2014.

“The concept car is a fully functional, driveable vehicle that has been put through its paces on Toyota test tracks,” said Tada, who claims that the shooting braking has “a slightly more neutral feel in tight corners on a driver’s favorite road.”

Toyota considering restyling the entire car, but ended up just adding the rear hatch and leaving the front panels the same as the production car.

Actual production on the 86 Shooting Brake isn’t likely, though Tada didn’t rule it out entirely. “While we never say never, and I would love this concept to become a production reality, it is very much a concept that demonstrates the passion within Toyota for cars that are fun to drive,” he said.
